The great frigatebird is a large black seabird whose males inflate a red gular pouch during courtship, much like the magnificent frigatebird. In the Galápagos it favors outer islands such as Genovesa and tends to feed farther offshore. It has a wide range across tropical oceans and is not endemic to the islands.

Best time to see it

Breeds in colonies with long chick-rearing periods; display activity concentrates in the breeding season, with no single narrow peak.
