The Galápagos fur seal is the smallest eared seal in the world and is endemic to the Galápagos Islands. It favors shaded, rocky shorelines in the cooler western and northern islands, hauling out on lava rock and sheltering in crevices from the sun. The IUCN lists it as endangered following a decline of more than 50 percent over recent decades.

Present year-round on western and northern islands; no single citable seasonal viewing peak.
